Cubs – Ages 9-11

Cub Scouts is the next adventure after Beavers: where kids aged 9–11 learn new skills, explore the outdoors, and gain more responsibility while having a load of fun.

Meetings & Age Group

  • When: Thursday, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Ages: 9 to 11 years
  • Part of Scouting Ireland’s ONE Programme, helping Cubs explore new challenges, build confidence, and work as a team while having fun.

What do Cubs Do

Cubs play team games, build campcraft and cooking skills, hike and explore, and camp.

Structure and Leadership

Cubs meet in Packs, organized into small teams called Sixes of around six members. Each Six has a Sixer and a Seconder, and they participate in Sixer Council to co-plan activities, building real leadership and ownership.

Uniform

Our Cub Scouts wear:

  • Navy Cub Scout jumper
  • 9th Westmeath Milltownpass neckerchief – black with a white border

Cubs also wear badges they’ve earned on their jumper, proudly showing their achievements.

What to bring to Cub Meeting and Activities

Wear your uniform and neckerchief and comfy footwear.
We’ll let you know if you need to bring anything extra before any special activities or outings.

Safety & safeguarding

Activities are delivered by trained, vetted volunteers following Scouting Ireland safety standards. If you have questions about wellbeing or inclusion, talk to our Section Leader or Group Leader anytime.

We have limited spaces each year, and many children join from our waiting list.

When do they move to Cubs?
Usually around age 12, depending on readiness and availability of places in scouts.
